A mixed reality installation by Adam Nash (Adam Ramona) and John McCormick, comissioned and presented by the 01SJ Biennial, San Jose, California, USA. Visit and interact with the work in actual reality at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of the 01SJ: Superlight exhibition from May 10 - August 30, 2008. Visit and interact with the work in Second Life at Ways To Wave. Ways To Wave is an immersive audiovisual volumetric virtual sculpture in Second Life that uses a beautiful physical controller in Real Life constructed of acrylic plastic, wood and aluminium housed in the San Jose Museum of Art. Rather than a simple one-way control model, the physical device and virtual artwork are in a symbiotic relationship where each influences the other. The result is an experiential audiovisual physical/virtual sculpture played collaboratively over the internet in realtime by physical and virtual players. Using the physical device is just as playful as experiencing the immersive virtual artwork, and both influence each other. |
