Help + Tech Info

Chromacy is a series of single-user vrml worlds.

Technical Requirements:

A vrml browser is required for viewing these pieces. Cortona is recommended.

Minimum 450Mhz computer with sound card and minimum 16Mb accelerated graphics card.

Headphones are recommended for a full spatial experience, but any stereo speakers will work. Unfortunately, Mac users will not be able to hear the audio because Cortona for Mac does not support MP3. There is a chance that FreeWRL for OSX will work, but this has not been tested.

Instructions and Help:

If you have a vrml browser installed, click on the links on the chromacy menu page to enter the individual pieces that make up the cycle. To return to the menu page, click on the chromacy link in the top left corner of the browser window.

Sound:

Depending on the speed of your internet connection, you may have to wait a short while before you hear any sound, but the visuals will start moving 3 seconds after the page loads, regardless of whether the sounds are ready or not. Most of the pieces total around 100Kb including sounds (except Chromacy Yellow which is around 400kb), therefore, if you don't hear any sound, wait a few seconds to see if they download, then check your speakers or headphones connection.

Navigation:

Automatic:
Simply load the page and you will be automatically guided through the piece.

Manual:
By using the standard vrml mouse and/or keyboard controls you can navigate the pieces in a deeper, more experiential manner:

Keyboard:
Arrow keys: move forward, backward, left, right (hold shift to speed up).
Space + arrow keys: look up, down, left, right.
Alt + arrow keys: pan.
Pg Up/Pg Dn: Cycle through predetermined viewpoints.

Mouse:
Left button: hold and move mouse to move within the world (hold shift to speed up).
Space + Left button: look up, down and around
Alt + Left button: pan.

Full Screen:

Cortona allows full screen mode - right click in the 3d window, then choose "full screen" and an appropriate resolution from the menu. Press the 'esc' key to return to windowed mode. Full screen mode may not work so well on slow computers, but if the 3d runs smoothly in the browser window, then chances are it will run fine in full screen too.
